Reminds me of the song at the beginning of F-troop and different episodes of Back to the Future

Sorry for the derail...

I will not comment further.

Yeah, it could always be done with outcrossing -- but it'd be better to do it from within the breed if possible. And if there were just a mottled variety of Marans we'd have everything we'd need!

I'm sorry. I don't always pick up on US humour.

Cultural differences I expect. I know plenty of US & Canadian people who don't get British humour either.

No problem Krys, I doubt if it is a cultural problem. There are a lot of people who do not appreciate my humor. Including a certain APA officer, not to mention my wife.

I do notice that you do not post with an accent....

Sam- I would not go to the Metro mess even if they had a poultry show. Wait a minute, they do have one -in October I think. Isn't it the same week end of some Football game?

As far the 2 standards matching up- isn't there a committee of some kind that is suppose to address such things? I think it was Gung Ho at one time but seems to be subsided now.

The tail angle thing reminds me of the phoenix bantams. I am not 100% sure on the exact angle but I think the APA says 25* in the males. The ABA says near horizontal. There are still some differences in th APA and ABA, I hear they are working on making the standards similar.

Yes, ther is a standards committee. My personal take is that the ABA should have the final say on all bantam breeds that they recognise. Only if (and I honestly am not aware of any) the APA recognises a bantam breed that is not ABA recognised should it have the say. Likewise, the APA should have final say for all large fowl breeds.

Bob - seems like I recall that you do come to a show in the MetroMess - in January! And you at least have to drive through it on the way to Decatur...

On the "unification" (which is really more appropriately termed a "consistentization") the action has died down on that front because of Gus Vinhage's passing, but the dialogs will likely get rolling again soon. In fact, several of the revisions in the upcoming APA Standard are actually cases where the APA is converting some elements to match the ABA (weights of Araucana Bantams, for example). The ABA likewise made some adjustments in their 2006 edition to match up with APA requirements. It has been a pretty fruitful process, even if a bit slow on some fronts.

Lots of folks always talk about the contradictions between the two Standards, but if you go and put the text side by side, I've found that the intent of the wording really isn't all that out of line. You say to-may-to, I say to-mah-to, but whatever, it is still good with a slab of bacon and lettuce leaves.

And finally, Texas-OU is on the last weekend of the State Fair of Texas this year, so we won't have to fight THAT crowd this time.
