... abandondoned chick died

I'll go ahead and say the eggs were from my flock. I've not had problems with my chicks dying other than from during incubation/hatching issues (mainly not enough humidity), but not once they've hatched on their own.

July 30th only puts that baby around 3 weeks old, though. NOT 6-7 weeks old. 3 weeks, IMO, is too young not to be with a mama to keep it warm and protected from the other members of the flock.

The only thing I'd suggest is seperating mom and eggs/babies from the rest of the flock, preferably in a small cage or pet taxi so nothing else can get to them.

Let me see what's going on with these eggs in the `bator and if they are growing, I'll send you more eggs once I get my broodies seperated so they stop stealing all of the eggs.

thanks asher! i would not have anything nor i would not blame any of this on you. i am sure it was me. they were doing so well and we were so happy! i just wish i could figure it out.

i will build a small brooding house just for that and hopefully have better luck. i will also re-scrub the coop and re-clean the run so it is all good and ready.

I think she just probably abandoned them too son, hon. I don't think it's anything you did.

Do you have any more broodies or will you brood these yourself?

I'm trying to think up how many hens I have laying right now with the other two broodies. I think it's 4, but not sure how often they're laying. I'll take the two broodies out tonight and see how many I can get and then candle the eggs in the `bator tonight or tomorrow. (They were on a mountain when I came home, 39 eggs. I took away all but 4 each and put them in the `bator, but the other girls keep laying in the nests. *sigh*)

i do not have broodies at the moment. i can borrow an incubator from a friend who uses it at school successfully. i am sure she would help with that. she returns the chicks to the county farm where she gets the eggs.
