My daughter found a duckling, looks to be a few days old. we have a ton of Muscovy ducks in our neighborhood. The mom left this one behind when my girls found it, it was very lethargic, wouldn’t move made no sound. I gave it Gatorade with an eye dropper and put it on a heating pad. This morning it’s 100xs better! My question is what to feed it? How to feed it? We got dried mealworms, crickets and shrimp but it will put it in its mouth then shake its head and spit it out.

If you have a local farm supply store you can get chick starter for it. Water and lots of it is important too.

Edit to clarify: water to drink. Swimming can come later. Waterfowl drink a lot of water and need it to eat properly.

I gave my Muscovy chicken starter in a bin, a little raised so that it could not poop in it's food, but not to high so it could not access it. I even aloud it to swim in small size tubs. But be sure not to put to much water. Probably enough for its legs to be elevated off the ground. Put a small piece of any grip like objects to allow it to get out of the pool.

Even a 2-3 day old will get chickstarter?

Chick starter till a month old atleast. Here in NS it comes in 25 pound bags so they get it for months haha

He needs heat. about 80 degrees. And warm water to drink because cold can cause a shock and kill him

Good call on the gatorade it saved him.

Yeah I was a vet tech years ago and knew it needed sugar and hydration! Really thought we were gonna lose it over night. It’s so damn sweet now! Just wants to be one us at all times!!! Still can’t get it to drink without forcing water with an eye dropper tho....

It's going to need some nourishment either duck starter or chick starter you can make it soupy and add a tad or ACV to keep it from spoiling. Warm water added to feed makes for good duckling food. My Muscovy ducklings are up and eating at 2 days old.
