My 10 month old goose dropped 2 eggs in the yard last month, then became pretty much absent for the last 2 weeks, showing up occasionally for brief periods, then disappearing. I believe she must have a nest somewhere but haven't found it. For the past 4 days, she's back in the yard constantly, hanging out with the ganders. How likely is it she has abandoned her nest? This would be her 1st clutch. Will her commitment to her eggs improve next time? TIA

I’m guessing she’s around a year old? From my expierience the fIrst years don’t really know what they’re doing when it comes to incubating so abandoning the nest is a big possibility, her nest could have been predated which is anoupther reason she may have left it.
Second year females tend to have it more together with incubating.

Thanks. She did disappear for about 3 wks, making periodic, brief appearances. Then she just returned & stayed. So, if she had a nest (likely), she didn't sit long enough to hatch. Maybe next yr.
