Nice compilation, but I would suggest not to use them.
    Except maybe RIR and OEGB.
If you google that last one, you get to see chickens.
Also all this precious information we type in is not found by google if we use those too often used abbreviations.
That is not such a bad thing, for a lot of topics [IMG]

Quote:Henk69, you had me a little confused, but that doesn't take much. This informatin is not to google it's for the members so if someone says, I just hatched 12 of 15 BTWJ, the new member will know it's black tailed white japanese.

Right, I think he's suggesting we avoid the abbreviations, both for the sake of confusing newbies and also so that the threads will be searchable for others to find useful information on down the road.

WOW, it took me a long time to figure out some of these!
As far as suggesting they not be used, prob not gonna happen. But maybe having this as a sticky would help a lot of ppl.
[IMG] See here I go with tons of abbreviations!
    thx for posting it!

There are a number of threads out there, listing all the abbreviations... most of the time, people only use the abbreviations for the really common (or LONG) breed names.

There are also 2 threads regarding abbreviations in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) topics, found at the very top of the Index page. [IMG] There is a huge amount of info in the FAQs, I really think it's worth reading! [IMG]

GREAT idea to revive this in the spring, when so many get chickens for the first time.

I though Black Copper Marans was BCM?

Quote:I think that you will find a lot of "overlapping" abbreviation and I am a believer that there shouldn't be any abbreviation used when referring to a breed.

For what it is worth the abbreviation for Rhode Island Red is R.I. Red and Rhode Island White is R.I. White and there is no such breed as a "New Hampshire Red" the breed is a New Hampshire.

WCBP - could also stand for White Cap Blue Polish
BA - could also stand for Black or Blue Andalusian
BR - could also stand for Bourbon Red as in the Turkey
WM - could also stand for White Maran
BO - could also stand for Black Orloff
BC - could also stand For Back Cross (as a term used in breeding just like F1 and P1)
