I have seen that before and I think it was cancer.

Oh gosh, I had a lady awhile ago with a yellow tumor like that on her shoulder. I ended up putting her down. She had an external injury, and I guess it got infected. It looked exactly like that tumor/ball of puss.It was not a tumor, it was a ball of pus from a bacterial infection in the sinuses.

Could be Kathy.I have seen that before and I think it was cancer.
We were hoping it isn't but it's looking more likely it is.I have seen that before and I think it was cancer.
Did you ever figure out what it was? I have a Frizzle bantam hen with something that looks pretty much like this where I thought she got hurt by a rooster spur. I keep her in her own pen, because she doesn't have a lot of feathers, but every now and again let her out to run around. I didn't find it until it had this big black spot on top. I feel bad because I was distracted by chicks hatching and wasn't able to really look at my birds too much the week I figured she'd gotten hurt.We were hoping it isn't but it's looking more likely it is.
Hopefully the vet can see her soon.Did you ever figure out what it was? I have a Frizzle bantam hen with something that looks pretty much like this where I thought she got hurt by a rooster spur. I was taking her from my moms place to tend to her this past week, but was in an accident and couldn't, and now she looks worse. I have a vet appointment Tuesday.
Thanks for the reply! I am really hoping it is a rooster wound, but am dreading that it isn't. I soaked it as well as I could today and it doesn't seem like a scab, but maybe I need to do a better hot compress.Hopefully the vet can see her soon.
To me it looks like some type of wound that needs to be cleaned well and tended to daily. I would not put her with a rooster until she's completely healed.
Let us know what the vet says. Thanks for the reply! I am really hoping it is a rooster wound, but am dreading that it isn't. I soaked it as well as I could today and it doesn't seem like a scab, but maybe I need to do a better hot compress.
I'm going to keep her in her own area from now on, no outings by any roosters, unless I am there to keep an eye on her make sure he doesn't do his rooster "How YOU doin'?" business. She's too precious for that.
I'm glad you were able to see the vet and get medication for her.Vet update: They said it looks like an infected wound. Gave me oral anti-inflammatory antibiotics ( Cephalexin Oral Susp), and pain meds (Metacam). Every 12 hours for 14 days. Also need to do hot compresses 10 min, or as long as she'll stand them( epsom salt), and put watered down solution of betadine (iodine) on it.
They said it felt kind of granular.
Her temperature was normal. Check up in about 14 days. $180.86, and one of the costs was a "bio hazard fee", $5.10. *scratches head*
I put the meds in her food, her crop was empty when we were there. But she eats when I put food in front of her, so either it's pain, or she is lonely. I wish I could have brought her buddy, Minnie, but no space at my place right now.
