My pet chicken, Mandy, a production Red, was seized by a large husky.. we finally got ahold of him and he dropped her.. she has severe swelling and bruising.. some little blood was on my towel I wrapped her in. I took her in the house and applied warm wet compresses.. then gently cleaned and applied triple antibiotics with pain aide. She is quite alert.. has a good deal of strength.. I held her for an hour and then placed her in a dog carrier ( in the house) with a blanket over the carrier.. please offer suggestions.. I just don’t know if I should offer water or food or not.. and what other first aid please!

Hello and welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry about your girl! :hugs The first step is to get them through the shock, so keep her warm, 75-80 degrees for a couple days. (Shock will kill them faster than the injury) Around day 2, start her on antibiotics, Amoxicillin if you have it, and keep her on them for 7 to 10 days. She will be dazed for several days and will need coaxing to eat and drink. Do not let her outside around flies until the skin is sealed over, preventing fly strike and maggots. I hope she will be ok!

Offering some water with a little sugar (1 tsp per cup) can help treat shock. Poultry NutriDrench would also work. Offer food if she is alert and seems to want it. Trimming any feathers that are getting into the wound can help. Pictures are welcome. Depending on if any internal injuries are present, that can affect her survival.
