Hello all,

Have mostly lurked as I didn't want to get too involved if my local village board said 'no' to changing the livestock ordinance... however, THEY SAID YES!

I will be able to have up to 6 chickens in my backyard with neighbors agreement within 100 ft. All my neighbors agreed!

I'm very excited... Hubby not so much but he did pick up a chicken feeder for me at a rummage sale yesterday so he must be getting over it.

Just in case they said yes, I already have 4 Silver Lace Wyandottes and 2 Buff Orpingtions waiting for me on a friends farm. I guess it's time to plan the coop and move them home!

Anyway, happy to join the board. Lots of good info on here and I appreciate the experiences of everyone!

Anyone that wants to offer me their best advice for a first-timers... please feel free, I could use all the help I can get!

Hi and welcome! I'm glad you went for it! Any advice you need is usually here. If you have a specific topic you want to know about the search engine is very helpful, otherwise post a question and we will all do our best. Congrats on getting the ordinance passed and again WELCOME!

Nicely done. Getting ordinances changed is not an easy thing.

Please let us know the details, what you had to go through, if anyone
objected, etc.

Welcome to the board.

CONGRATS!! I know there are a few people here trying to do the same thing....glad you was succesfull! Anything you can't find an answer to...just ask. These are a great bunch of people here....willing to lend a hand. And Welcome! Of course, we will want pics! LOL

That's wonderful! I'm a firm believer in trying to change city hall when things just aren't right. I've been successful in doing so in a non-chicken related ordinance so I'm glad to see you went for it.

I live in a very populated area, in a town of over 100,000 residents. My backyard is small - 64' X 25' and up to 4 chickens are legal here as long as that's your total pet count. If chickens can be legal here, they should be able to be legal just about anywhere.

Any time one of our members is successful in legalizing city chickens, it opens the door for other cities to do the same. Thanks for your part in that! Best of luck with your new chickens!
