SO on Sat am my barn girl kitty went into labor, and produced 2 kittens, both dead. One was formed perfectly, just small with no hair to speak of. The other was smaller & deformed and a purple color, and she ate half of it before i could get to it.(Grosss). But that was it, no more signs of anymore labor...BUT her belly is still big, and I swear I can feel movement in there still.....

So my question is, can kittens be born on different days. Can she abort the 2 unhealthy ones, and a few days later give birth to healthy kittens(or maybe more dead ones)? She seems fine, not in any distress, eating fine(quite well actually), and is locked in my basement until I know what is going on.

Please help!

Thanks

i had a cat that gave birth to a couple of kittens early then went on about 2 weeks later and had 6 healthy kittens, I would take her to the vet and make sure that everything is okay.

Yes, a cat can lose (pass) some stillborn kittens and the others be okay -- BUT it is not usual or normal, and I would really suggest taking her to the vet if at all possible.

The vet can check whether there are any subtle signs of infection or anything else like that, that could've been the *cause* of losing those kittens and could endanger the others or the momcat. Etcetera. (Did she pass the afterbirth from those kittens?)

I'd really take her in, if it were me - not to risk losing the other kittens *and* her.

Good luck,

Pat

It is really rare for a cat to abort a couple kittens and then go on to have a normal litter. In order to abort those kittens, her cervix opened and contractions occured. Once the cervix opens she's got a much greater risk of getting a uterine infection (which is often life threatening). She needs to see a vet ASAP. There are also some diseases that cause abortions, bacteria etc, some of which are contagious to humans.

And then keep her in until she's spayed, they can get pregnant again quickly.
