About chickens vs chooks...

Thanks everyone, for your responses! Interesting to hear about the different names applied to these birds in different languages. As a footnote to the "chook" thing, it also frequently gets changed to "chookeys", which is the more intimate version, the term of endearment, as in: "Have you locked the chookeys up?" (a question either I or my partner ask each other just about every evening).

And I was just kidding, about giving my birds the chop, I'm actually very fond of them, and they're actually in good condition and very happy and healthy, with superb free range in a subtropical paradise with acres of forest that would have most of the world's chooks spitting with envy. Once I get time to build a bigger pen, I'm going to get a whole lot more of them...

Personally I like to call them "Chicklets," regardless of sex. age, etc/
