About how much feed do chickens go through in one week?

I've tried that and was flatly denied, no further discussion allowed. The store nearest to me gives all of their stuff to a local farmer, and won't share with anyone else.

so, fermented feed + free ranging = 0.1 lbs/bird/day. Right?

The problem with the fermented food thread is that people are making all these claims about saving money, and then you read through it and it's like "well, by birds only eat 1lb/week each of fermented crumble, but I feed about 5lbs of scraps, 2 quarts of yogurt, and 2lbs of BOSS each day" - it's impossible to get any real data.

The people who are seeing real improvements - I think its mostly from the fact that mash is tougher to fling around then crumble is - the birds are wasting less (but this is something that could be fixed with better feeders)

I offer you a challenge: Do your own experiment, and you tell us your results: Feed out your typical ration of feed, a 50# bag given to what ever size flock you have. give it free choice. Let them eat as much as they want. Document how long that bag lasts.

Now, with your next bag of feed, ferment it. Offer it free choice. Let them eat as much as they want. Document how long that bag lasts. Let us know on one of the FF threads what your results were.

That's what I intend to do. I've already been documenting how much feed our birds go through in a day but for the last couple of days, they've hardly eaten because the temps have been so cold that they don't want to come off the roosts.

Do you have any roosters?

Do you have any non-laying hens (pullets or elderly)?

Is your feed 100% organic?
