How cold is too cold for them? Some nights we get to around 10 degrees. I have a heat lamp in my coop for such occasions.

So, how much cold can they handle?

mine sleeps in the tree and it was freezing in NC. All my chickens are in the coop without any heat and the are fine. They free range in the freezing weather too.
They are pretty cold hardy.

We are in middle Tennessee and a couple of weeks ago, our temps never got above freezing with overnight lows at 6 degrees! Our Jap bantams did very well, they managed to stay fairly warm in their coop, which is not heated. I did get some fresh hay to put down and line the walls of their coop just as I did for all my other chickens; the only ones that really appreciated all the nice hay/straw were my Silkies, who do not roost for the most part-they like to burrow down into the fresh hay to keep warm!
