My pullets are about 15 weeks old now, so I figured I'd better build a nest box & let them get used to it now. Got it done & put it in last week. It's 3 ft wide, 1 ft high & 1 ft deep. 2 openings about 1 ft wide, and due to an oversight on my part ( forgot to account for the rail I had to put in to keep the nesting material in the box) made the height of the entrances only about 8 in. Is this high enough for standard hens? They seem a little reluctant to go in, even after I added the wooden egg. Also, it's only about 10 inches off the floor, so I know they can see in. Should the openings be bigger? I'd hate to tear the whole thing out to redo!
