abruptly a chicken owner!

we are closing on our first house tomorrow, and with it will come half a dozen chickens! current owner has upwards of thirty and has decided to leave us six "to get started." I have no idea which chickens he's leaving us, so this will be a fun adventure!

Hopefully he's not leaving you a bunch of roosters and spent layers. Don't get discouraged if you have a bunch of freeloaders over the winter. Normal part of chicken life. Six is a nice number to start with. Entertain the idea of adding 3-4 more in the spring to help keep your egg production up and flatten out the low periods.
