Abscess on foot. **pic** UPDATE

Quote:
Yes, i thought i got it yesterday but i didn't i just a piece of it. This morning I was able to put her i a pillowcase and get the rest out. Before anyone starts asking " why the pillowcase " our girls are not friendly we got them already grown and where they came from they were free range on large land. She seems like she is doing well. Thanks everyone for the input I would have never been able to figure out what it was without yall.

Sounds like a sensible approach to me. But you might have a pet on your hands by the time you get this thing cured!

How is she doing, I just about lost my chow looking at that. I did a search on bumblefoot to see if that is why my drake is limping, it doesn't look like that though thank heavens!

The best way to treat bumblefoot is the following.

Make a solution out of betadyne and warm water. Put the chickens foot in it for at least 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes look at the bottom of the foot and gently peel away the scab that is there. Point the foot away from you in case there is soooo much pressure from the infection that the pus squirts out. If the pus doesn't come out on its own use gentle pressure to get all of the poison out. Rinse the foot repeatedly in the medicated solution to kill germs as you go along and to let you see inside the abcess. There should be a plug or hardened pus that you can pull out with tweezers. After you get that out rinse the wound with fresh solution. If the foot is bleeding let it bleed for a few seconds. It will help to get rid of the bacteria. Make sure to dilute the bedadine. Dry the foot thouroughly and bandage after using neosporin ointment. Keep chicken separated and well fed and should be good to go. Change bandage every day and if it looks like the infection is coming back see a vet because you will need antibiotics.

Protect yourself from the pus. It could be carrying staph germs or a number of other nasty germs that are just as dangerous to humans. Good luck.
