I wouldn’t say it was a domestic cat. I have many cats and these prints were the size of my 30lb dog. This duck weighed in at about 15 pounds and I don’t think there’s any way a domestic cat could have done this unless it was a bobcat.Kitties are very sneaky to. Could be a Bobcat, maybe even a stray cat. Depending on the size of the print
I can’t tell for sure but they look like canine to me. Fox or coyote most likely. Nails won’t show up unless in soft ground or mud.
Thanks both of you! I really appreciate the advice and condolences. I’ve been really busy with my Christmas activities so I haven’t got the live trap set up yet. It’s been absolutely frigid so the ducks haven’t been going outside. Crazy, the surviving sister duck, has been hanging out with my call ducks for now. I am leaving to go visit family tommorow, but after that I will be picking up some friends for crazy. I noticed the day after the attack that she has a quarter sized hole in her chest which I’m assuming is aftermath of the attack. I haven’t got a good picture but it is a perfect hole so I’m not sure what would do that. I’ve been treating her with vetricyn and she is recovering.I am so sorry!!!!
Do you have saline, Clorhexadine, beanie to flush it with? If not, then flush it REALLY well with warm soapy water. Fill the puncture with Neosporin war another antibacterial ointment. Do not war the would. Keep the wound moist with Neosporin, I would be worried about her swimming to. Maybe keep her to of the water or pond until it heals. Punctures can get infected very easily, and be very dangerous. Make sure you flush it out with soapy water and Vetrycin. That is very important. Hope this helps! AveryThanks both of you! Thanks for the advice. I have been flushing it with saline. She has not been swimming because it is very cold out. I’ve been using zinc free antibiotic ointment then spraying it with the vetricyn.Do you have saline, Clorhexadine, beanie to flush it with? If not, then flush it REALLY well with warm soapy water. Perfect. This is perfect. Good job with her. Just keep that up, and a warm/hot compress for 10 minuets won't hurt either. We were told my our vet to do hot compresses 3 times a day for 10 minutes for our dog with a puncture wound. Dont' know if this is the same for a duck, how often you would do it, or any of that, but if you had the time, it may not hurt to try it. Good job with her! AveryThanks for the advice. Thanks so much! The advice is very helpful! I think that might be a good idea to try. She seems to be on a path to recovery so I’m hoping for the best.Perfect. This is perfect. Good job with her.
