Oh When my eggs hatch should I separate the tiny Serama chicks from the bigger breeds?

I would, until its big enough.

I had some older chicks in with day olds and one of the day olds got stepped on. I saw it happen and the older chick was standing on her body. I thought for sure she would die but I gave her some Nutri-Drench and she was fine the next morning. After that I separated the bigger girls for a while. Sorry you had to deal with that.

Yea it sounds like yours was probably weak or sick.

Not really weak, but the chicks who stepped on her were Ancona which are known to be super energetic.

Hatchery. She was perfectly healthy and happy. Older chicks were 8 days old. She was stepped on in front of the feeder. It didn’t look like bullying or anything just a complete accident.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I accidently ruined a chick last year too . Same as you I opted to put it down. I feel it's the responsible thing to do. Your son will fall in love with the other ones soon I would guess. Things happen esp to chicks.
