Accidenlty got a meat bird?

This is here sister. They appear to have very different shapes and feather growth..unless I’m crazy?

My daughter will be so upset if these turn out to all be meat birds..guess we will see how they continue to grow!

the other two yellow ones don't look Cornish do they? the Cornish hen is the meat chicken right? bummer..

Yea, they also do. I don't think they were selling you White Rocks, but they were most likely offering White Cornish Rock Xs

Bummer...guess we might have learned the hard way about getting chicks at TSC. We shall continue to raise them as pets and see what happens. I'll post pics in a few weeks..maybe then they will miracously morph into the beautiful rhode island white rocks Of the four yellow chicks, one is super small..so perhaps she's truly not a Cornish cross

The broad chest and spread legs on the bigger ones says it has Indian Game in them (one of the birds used in the Cornish Cross)

The little one may be a White Rock if it has a single comb

TSC sold me a similar "grab bag" last year. I noticed the same way you did. One got huge real fast and would just lay by the food and eat. I gave her to a needy family right before the holidays. I didn't want to see her suffer.

If you want to keep these birds around I suggest limiting food. I've heard good things about being able to keep Cornish X alive for a while if you limit food. If you want the smaller birds to be able to eat, you can easily rig up a divider that they can get through but the bigger birds can't.

So, do Cornish hens just sit by the food, eat and sleep? I have been starring at the 3 questionable ladies (hope they are ladies!) and they are leaping around a tad, enjoying the stick roost and chasing/pecking with the others in the large bin we have set up? Would a "meat bird" have that much energy? The one is perhaps a little lazier than the other 2.

CX can be quite active if given the space and stimulation of layer breed chicks.
