accident with goat update: I think she is going into labor

I know I should probably get some epinephrine to keep just in case but our usual vet wants us to bring them in anytime we need anything he is a good vet and prices are good for the cats and dogs but its not as easy to get a goat in there. Wonder if the human epi pen would work the same?

Not sure about the epi-pens, but I'd imagine they're probably harder to get ahold of than a bottle of livestock epi from a vet.. I got my vet to order me some to keep on hand, and it was cheap.. Like, $10 or something.. I've been pestering them for this and that for so long that they'll give me just about anything I ask for, though.

Seems like most vets understand that when you're dealing with livestock, it's necessary to have certain things on hand. Epi is one such thing...and there's literally no reason you'd ever have to bring a goat to the vet to get epi for it, because if it ever actually needed epi, it would be long dead by the time you arrived. I would think your vet would totally get that.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll give it to you.. Pure epi is highly sought after by meth cooks, so if you find that they're reluctant to send you home with a vial, that could be why.

Ok I will give her more of the probios today she seemed to really like it so shouldnt be a problem getting it in her.

It's funny how that works.. Some goats hate Probios, and others will fight you to get at it.

I took her some warm water with mollasses in it today and she drank about half of the container (it wasnt large). I also gave her some nutri drench I ordered.

They do like molasses, don't they!

Her wounds look really good I have been cleaning them everyday as directed and yesterday used the stuff I ordered which looked exactly like what the vet used btw.

The yellow stuff? It's an oldie, but a goodie.

I can't remember why, but my vet actually mixed me up a lttle container of Fura Zone with lidocaine once for a wound dressing.. Antibacterial + pain relief.. I thought that was a pretty neat trick, and a good one to remember.

This morning I let her out of her stall to walk around and she ate some of the other goats grain walked around for a bit and then went and layed down in the sun. Im watching her close to make sure she doesnt get hurt by the others but she is top dog so I dont think I have anything to worry about anyway.

I always feel like if a goat wants to get out and ramble around, let'em, no matter how sick or injured you think they are.. Keep an eye on them if necessary, of course, but freedom seems to be something a goat needs.. It really lifts their spirits, I think. Keeping one cooped up too long seems to be a little depressing to them, and depression is absolutely perilous to a goat.. Once they make their minds up that it's over, there's little you can do.

That she wanted out to lay in the sun, to me, is yet another in a long list of positive signs so far.

I think you're doing a really great job with her.

Well have not had time to update in a couple days but thought I would today. She seems to be doing great her drain tube came out yesterday and seems to look ok. Im still cleaning it daily but no more penicillin shots (vet said 5 days we did it for 7) and she is eating and staying with the other goats now she doesnt want to be seperated she stands at the gate untill she is let out with the others. I will update as we get better and hopefully get as good as new soon. Thanks for all the advice

Ok so today is the day I believe she was off away from everyone else and now she is laying down and getting up alot pawing at the ground a little clear discharge but not much. wish me luck for an easy delivery oh and I will be sure and post pics when the new little ones arrive.

im sitting in the kidding stall with her with the laptop lol .
I dont really know what I should do she is acting a little uncomfortable but hasnt even acted like pushing but maybe 3 times the whole time I have been out here never seen a bubble like I have read. Is this normal? She is standing up right now eating hay but then in a few minutes she will paw the ground lay down and start breathing heavy and grunting. Is she in trouble or is this normal begining stages of labor?

Pretty normal, sounds like. Some of them do this off and on for hours before they really begin pushing.

You'll know when she really starts pushing.

for two front feet and a nose in the bubble(s).

It could be as long as 24 hours from now if they are the only signs.
