Accidental rooster (who we love) - need help with crowing please 😊

So we had a rooster in our residential area. We brought him in at night, into a cage in our garage. Covered the cage with a dark blanket. It was a chore, but was worth it. That muffled the noise considerably. He used to go out later in the morning on a weekend to avoid waking the neighbours. The only reason I got rid of him was because he bullied my one hen, nothing short of almost trying to kill her.

It seems like you are doing all you can do, our roosters are insanely insistent especially in the mornings, but the way I see it, if our neighbors can have screaming kids, or shoot or have loud dogs, y’all can deal with hearing my boys. It is possible that once he gets out of his crazy hormonal cockerel stage the crowing May die down a bit especially if their isn’t another rooster he has to contend with.

Are chickens addressed?
No, chickens are not addressed at all with the exception of two clauses - one that it is unlawful to sell poultry that has been dyed or had their feathers altered and the other that it is unlawful to sell poultry less than 2 months in quantities less than 6. We live in Kentucky and I am assuming that it is more lax since it is a more farming friendly area, however, we are inside of Lexington so I want to be considerate of that. We have a big finished basement so tonight we are going to set up one of our large dog kennels and add a roosting bar for him. Hopefully if he is in the house with us they won't hear him in the morning! We fully insulated our coop yesterday and when we went out this morning it was remarkably cooler than it was outside (and it was about 68 degrees at the time). Even with two of the windows closed I was amazed at how well our fan and smaller ventilation openings cooled the coop down! So even though it didn't help much with the sound I'm glad we did it 😊

This is exactly what we are going to try tonight!! I'm sorry you had to get rid of him though 😔

Hahahaha! Our next door neighbors have late parties and are always SUPER loud with their motorcycles. We have another neighbor with a huge loud diesel engine that starts between 6-7 and another neighbor with a dog who barks constantly 🙄. We only know that our rooster is bothering one of our neighbors because we have been very intentional in asking them. We definitely don't want to be one of those annoying neighbors!! I'm hoping that since they can see how hard we are trying that they are a little more understanding. I would be really bothered if my neighbor had a noisy rooster and didn't try to do something about it so I completely understand if they are too. We just love this guy so much I'm really hoping we can figure out a way to make it work! 🤞🏼

Did the fan run all night blowing cooler air into the coop?

See how it does over the course of today.
