The coop that I keep the rest of my chickens in the fencing is a little big for my young birds still maybe another week or two but the tote they have been in is too small, I need a temporary idea for about two more weeks, I put them in a large dog crate without the tray and they loved the grass but I'm not sure if that is enough for them to stay dry and safe. Any ideas

Make a box or use a cardboard box inside the coop that they can go in at night, and cover the dog crate with a tarp. If you can't do anything in the coop, bring the dog crate inside your basement at night. Good luck!

Can you make a temporary run inside the run used by the big girls, and perhaps put a cat crate in there for them to use as shelter during the day? How old are they? Are you concerned about them squirting through the fencing? Or do you have an other concern?

They are 5 weeks old and my fence holes are 2x3 I put them in there today 30 seconds later they were out in the yard, just looking for something temporary

What I'm going to use for my chicks is a watermelon box. I got one for free from my local Walmart. You might have to wait a day or two before it becomes free. Be sure to ask them to put a note on it to save it for you or it may get sent to the crusher before you come for it.

Thats a REALLY good idea. I'll have to remember that. You can also use a fridge box, I got five or six for free from an appliance place. I use them in my basement for my rooster who has a huge comb and has to be brought in if the temp drops below 32 degrees (I talked to a vet).

A workable approach to that is to run 2ft poultry netting around the heavier fence..... the smaller openings contain chicks/ smaller birds without refencing the whole thing
