Acorns and chickens

Hey all, My youngest son has sold all of us on getting in the chicken biz. The coop is going up soon and the birds soon thereafter in the early spring. We have a Live Oak in the yard where the coop is gonna go. Can the chickens eat the acorns ? If makes a difference we have settled on Buff Orps and Barred PR's.

Yes, but you have to crack them for the chickens to get the meat out. I have some trees over a driveway and when freeranging some of my chickens run to the cracked nuts!! Oh, and you will love the Buff Orps, and I also would like to have PRs! And welcome!!
