add a different fed???

I feed ALL my birds Purina Flock Raiser. 20% protien. Usually I will start the chicks with a bag of Purina Start & Grow medicated starter but when that bag is gone, everybody goes on Flock Raiser. So much easier than trying to figure out who gets which feed. I feed it to quail, guineas, chickens of every shape, size and age. I provide crushed oyster shell for them if they want it.

Thanks everyone. I am feeding them all the Flock Grower and the chicks are getting a mix of the medicated cumbles and the Flock grower until the crumbles are gone..

I switched from medicated crumbles to just the chick crumbles when the girls moved out to the yard with the big chickens because the big chickens were getting into the chicks feed and vice versa. I don't want my layers to get the medicated feed. They also eat leftovers bugs plants and enjoy foraging around the run. They seem to love when the grass goes to seed.

We have been using Purina Start and Grow ever since we got our Barred Rocks home - they were 4 days old. They have had no injections that we are aware of, and we kept them in a brooder box until 5 weeks old, then have placed them outside for good now. Heat has been high, we place frozen water/soda bottle in the run for them to stand on, and also fill their water container with ice everyday.

So far, so good, no problems health wise, they are getting friendlier everyday..........

Has anyone else done this? Since we got chickens we have noticed so many more on television programmes than we ever realised. Even our local Stanley Steemer commercial has a Barred Rock walk across the screen in one scene!!!

I appreciate the offer, but I'd rather seek the aid of someone with a bit nicer tone to their posts. I'm not sure what you were hoping to accomplish by making this post, but I'm not going to take the bait if you are trying to get a rise out of me. May your flock live long and healthy lives.

@Everyone else

Many thanks to all who have offered their input! I have some chicks who have been vaccinated and some who could not be vaccinateds because of their size. That's precisely why I was anxious about taking the girls off the medicated feed before they were even two weeks old. I have two 25lb bags of food one Purina Start & Grow medicated, and another from Tractor Supply (Dumor: Starter/Grower 20%) that is not. Given the input you've all graciously provided I think I'll just mix the two and continue feeding them the mix until it runs out, then simply transition them to exclusively non-medicated high protein grower formula.

Peace!
