hi all... i have had chickens for a while now:old but i have never had to add chicks to my flock... when should i do it and how???

My method is to max out my coop space (designed for 9 birds) in spring and eat approx 1/3 of the flock in the fall. So it is 66% capacity in the winter but the new chicks (3) are laying as it is their first winter, the ones that were eaten would not have laid eggs that winter anyway and would lay less eggs the following summer.

I integrate with panic doors at 2-3 weeks old.

If you want to add chicks and have room for it now I would say the next 2 weeks is really your window to keep egg production up this winter and not have to deal with excessive heat with young chicks.
