I have a m/f pair of 5 month old seramas that have been quarantined and are ready to be introduced to their flockmates (2 large fowl hens, 2 bantams and 2 2mo old pullets). All this week I’ve had the seramas in a wire dog kennel in the same run as the rest of the crew. This evening while the established flock was free ranging I took the seramas out of their protected kennel and did a “guarded” intro. It didn’t go well. My welsummer immediately tried to jump in the seramas.

Has anyone mixed a flock like this before? I’ve read trying to integrate them at night when everyone is roosting might work. What’s your thoughts?

Thanks!

We have 5 seramas, 5 Silkies, a bantam Cochin, and 5 large chickens. Our Barred rock hen is the biggest. We also have 9 Silkie chicks at the moment. We’ve always snuck any new chickens in at night. Our main coop is about 50 sq feet and the run is about 150. They also have access to about a half an acre so i really feel that helps tons. There’s enough to keep them busy so that they don’t pester each other. (Although my Cochin will take on anyone who gets too close to her Silkie babies! Even their daddy lol)

That’s very helpful! I tried to do an introduction while everyone was out free ranging and all the big girls immediately tried to attack the Serama roo. When you intro them at night do you just sneak them in the roost bar and hope for the best or are you there super early in the morning to see how it goes?

Our coop is smaller but they have 140 sq ft of run space during the day and an acre to roam after I get home from work.
