Yesterday I put my 10 week old EEers in with my 1 year old Buff Orpingtons. I put them in a large dog crate at first. Then later in the day I let them out into the run. It was a success! We had two little spats but the old girls pecked the littles once and the littles would run. They ate together and drank together. I was worried about putting them in the coop but when I went down to put them up they had already gone in together. I was planning on putting the littles into the dog crate for the night. I got up extra early to make sure I let them out before they started getting fussy in the coop. They all came out just fine!
I am so relieved. I was stressing about this move. The little ones have been in a smaller chicken tractor and they were growing so fast they were running out of room. I did end up with at least 3 roos so when they get a little bigger I will find them new homes. Just want to make sure who is who first. I thought I knew who was a roo and who was a hen but now one that I was sure was a hen has little bumps on the back of her leg, so I am guessing that will develop into spurs.
