Added the roo!!!

I felt that way about my girls too, but my roosters got over themselves and now there is balance- in the beginning they were like ill mannered teenaged boys; snatching food, rough mating, being pushy, but that has since subsided. I do have a few hens that have no problem snuffing bad manners in the unlikely event that one of the boys forgets his place.

My hens looked like they were beaten to smitherine...backs all bare, red bloody open sores on their backs..looked really sad.
I too hated when the Roo mated with them. I had a Roo who would even try to mate with my ducks.....I did interfere with that because I wouldn't know wether to call them " Chucks or Dickens".....
LOL
Roosters are naturally agressive with the hens and he will hop on one every chance he gets. They never get enough sex....however, Roosters will also mount a hen just to show dominance..and not actually complete the act. They are very strange and humble creatures. Like the other person said, if you knew what you were getting into, you would have never considered a Roo. The thing is, you can always seperate the Rooster every once in awhile from the hens. Gives them a break but it's really sad to have a Rooster all alone in a pen. It's not fair to him.
I know you love your birds an believe me, I have 12 ducks, 8 hens, 2 cockatoos and a Great Pareneese dog...I love everyone the same and would do anything to keep them safe and healthy but you will learn that you are not an animal and you must let them fend for themselves and let them be animals...Good- Luck..Ray

10-4 . I've always none this. Its just hard to except it. Humans have feelings. Chickens have instinct. If this roo helps my chicks it will be great. I'm tired of being their roo. Reality, they love me for food. I wish this wasn't true but it is & you know what, I accept their behaviour. I still think their my buddies & always will.
