We raised chickens growing up. We raised them for meat and I may do that some day. But my first group with be strictly layers. I got the from Tractor Supply this past Friday and the kids and I are already addicted to these little beauties. There were two sad little ducklings left too so of course my 8 year old daughter had to have them as pets. I'm super excited to be a part of this group and will probably have plenty of questions as we go along.

Are the ducks and chicks in the same brooder? Reason I ask is I think it's okay at this point to keep them together, but when grown they shouldn't be housed together...JMHO.
 
Yeah they are together. Not that I doubt your opinion but what is the reason they shouldn't be together later. I have no issues housing them differently once outside just curious for the reason.
 
Well, I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but from what I've read/learned here at BYC they shouldn't be housed together because of health reasons, diseases, etc. Someone else with much more expertise should be along that can better elaborate...

Cute babies! Ducks can make a big mess and at some point you do need to separate them. They also need water to keep the nostrils clean. You will want to stop by our duck section here on BYC for more info on how to raise your ducks....
