Adding 1 to my flock

I was thinking of adding an additional hen/chick to my flock of 3, but was told it best to add at least two so the newbie doesn't get abused to bad. My current flock consists of 2 Rhode Island reds and one Delaware - they are all about a year old. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You were given good advice, especially having RIRs which, not in all cases but tend to be the bullies of a mixed flock.
If you do only get 1 more, you could take out the RIRs and let the new one make friends with the Delaware before returning the RIRs 1 at a time.
If the Delaware is alone for a couple days, she may be quicker to accept the new one.
