Hello,
I need some advice from those experienced with Wyandottes. I have been offered two 5 month old Golden Laced Wyandotte pullets. I have a very small backyard flock of 5 birds already, all about 2-3 yrs old. I have one Rhode Island Red, one Ameraucana and three barred plymouth rocks. All my birds get along pretty well, although recently the pecking order has changed and the RIR is no longer the alpha. Seems that one of the BPRs is. They have a 4x6 ft coop inside their own little pasture which is approx 14 x 25 ft. They are pastured hens and only free range in the rest of the yard once in a while as I also have a dog. Within their fenced pasture I often grow forage seed for them in separate little fenced off areas. And they get lots of weeds and greens from the rest of the yard. I have read that Wyandotte like to free range and do not do well in a small area such as mine. True? Also that they are noisy, which might not work where I live in the city. I'd love the hens, but want to make sure it is a situation likely to succeed for everyone's sake.
I'd love any advice anyone can give me. Thanks!
