Adding 2nd run.. If you can't laugh at yourself? (added predator pics)

Heh, try a little paint on it!

You say it is whimsical? Why not deepen that effect? Paint it a bright color you like and let your kids stamp little chicken prints on it or do something colorful, or add a flower box or something like that. Or make it pink and call the coops his and hers, the one hubby helped you with and the "girl" one you made with woman-power. I like the color pink so that would be my choice, but you should paint it a bright color YOU enjoy looking at.

Our coop was nicely made by my hubby but with recycled parts. I was amazed what a difference a coat of one color paint made.

Heather, I love you... and I am trying really hard to hold back the roaring laughter. I am quite shocked you have not called me with this plight, or even to get some advice via Brian. Either way though, thanks for telling me about this posting. I am WAY entertained... please please please... post.... PICTURES ASAP!

In fact, repost the coop and run your husband built... I want to see a side by side comparision!

Well.. I have to say the actual coop is CUTE (because I didn't build it! The guys at coolcoops.com built it).. I'm only attaching the run.. b/c I figured that would be easy. Oh brother!

now my kids point out to me.. "hey mom.. why is dad's run so stable?".. Why is dad's run so.... STRAIGHT!" LOL.. OMG! Glad I have his straight.. stable run to attach to!! tee hee! The run .. I'm just using old deckin stain/paint and it's a dark brown.. almost same color as the stable straight run my husband built.. Although the chicken wire attached to his is really wavy and not straight b/c we did it one big swoop.. at least with my run.. frame will be bad but I'm putting my chicken wire in sections and it should be straight but I haven't got to that part yet..

Yes.. if you want a good laugh.. you'll have to see this when done.. especially the first part I built.. LOL..

Thanks shannon.. if your hubby were here.. but honestly I have had so much work done around here having to pay others to do it (tree work and some sheet rocking).. I really wanted to do this myself.. I mean. how hard could it be??? heh

Only thing that takes away from the look of my hubby's coop is the way we attached that chicken wire on his.. that did drive me nuts but it is predator proof.. I'll have to find a pic when on break.. I'm going out now to stain first.. then after I paint more boards.. i'm enlisting my children for slave labor. Oh brother.. what did i get myself in to??

I still say good for you for trying your best.

I know it is hard to be in a military family. I was in the service for ten years and my first hubby was the one to stay home, but I was the more "handy" of us two. If you want to learn more about doing handy things around the house, I am pretty sure that Home Depot offers free classes on the weekends. They usually post a list of the classes and you could go to the ones that interest you. Nothing wrong with knowing a little about plumbing, building and maybe a smattering of electrical. Most of the stuff I used to think could only be handled by a "professional" are actually pretty easy. I have replaced light fixtures and toilets all on my own mainly because I couldn't afford to pay someone $60 just to show up at the door let alone do the work. Good luck, have fun with the kids and we definitely want to see pictures! (drink as much wine as needed to post the pics

) You have a whole team of people on here cheering you on!

Yes.. since this is a secret from my husband it's so hard to keep the kids quiet about it. I 'm telling them it's a "surprise" .. Now I know what my hubby would say "we don't need another coop".. LOL! Well.. so he has no idea I bought it unless someone has told him.. ( i may have told his mother I was getting one?.. or the friend of his that helped me get the coop level as I couldn't even lift it on my own).. Of course my oldest says "dad..we have a surprise!".. I just want to have it completed.. chickens inside and safe and then say.. "see.. look what i did".. Ok.. he'll KNOW i did it!

I should take a Home Depot class b/c so many projects I wanted done and I don't want to wait for him to return to do them. I usually go at things blind and try them.. but I am learning a lot.. hopefully you all will be able to tell where that learning curve falls..
