Adding a bigger Roo to the batchelor pad

Not all roosters are like that. I've got 9 right now in their own pen still inside the coop. They have little battles between themselves and will sometimes try to jump each other, but only one has made a half attempt at pecking my hand. Whenever they have a dispute when I'm around, I fly in there and break it up. Usually I'll either give the agressor a quick swat or if it's a bit more intense, I'll hang them upside down. I can still pick up most of them and they all still eat out of my hand when I call them. That will change a bit when it warms up and they start to free range again.

Runawaylobster - your rooster looks delicious! I'v only had my chickens for a year, but the first rooster I got at an auction turned agressive after I had him for about a month. I had him in a pen that was only 30" tall when he first came at me. It didn't take long to catch him in there but he was a slow learner. Unfortunately, the neighbors cat got him before I did. Chicken vegetable soup is a lot better than plain vegetable soup. From what I've read, man fighters tend to give manfighter offspring.

It sounds like he might make a nice meal. My only other suggestion would be to put a harness on him along with a leash. With my guy once he realized the power I had over him him it totally put him in his place and all I had to do was leave the harness on him and that was enough. Plus he won't be able to fly up at you when you come into his pen. Good luck.

i have never heard of that... it's an interesting thought..

I had a road island red that was this way. One day he and I danced and when he jumped up I hit him with the feeder scoop and nocked him out when he woke up he had a new outlook on life. he was much better to the hens and when I went in the coop he would go to the run and stay there tell I left and then go eat.

I love it! They are NOT mindless and can learn who's the boss!

He's still with me!!! but i am now feeding him by poking a leaf rake in through the doorway to shield myself when i lean in and change his food... This weekend he attacked the rake.. I can't believe i'm scared of this guy.. I pick up all the others..
