we have 2 ducks about 3 months old now and a friend of my husband asked if we could take his only duck because his chickens are picking on it. Is there anything I should do to get ready for this new duck or will it settle in well with my 2?

I would still quarantine the new bird.

for how long and what should i watch for? this duck is a few years old and a female

Any signs of illness or unusual behavior. It's usually just a precaution but it has saved many birds from potential diseases. I quarantine for a month.

so do you do this when you get young ducklings that you buy also? sorry, I'm just new to all this and I've really grown close to my ducks and want to do the right thing.

Oh you shouldn't feel bad it's defiantly shows your concerned for the safety of your birds. If the ducklings hatch from my birds no. When I buy from a breeder even a reputable one I still separate them from the rest. I don't take chances when it comes to Bio-hazardous issues .

Thank you for all your help! I'm excited about this new duck (already talked to my other 2) hopefully they will understand and welcome with open wings! lol I will be sure to block off a place to quarentine for a while. Thankn you again.
