Adding adult duck to young mixed flock

Well I picked up the other duck today and my chickens were a little curious but so far they don't seem to concerned, My girl I had already was so excited when she heard another duck, and anytime the new girl sounds off my other goes running to check on her, she even hopped the pen to take a swim with the other 😀 So far so good! I will keep them separated at night for a little bit till I'm more confident in the chickens

Well, I have a sad update...our new duck waddled away:( I searched for hours and haven't heard her in days. My cayuga has been horribly upset, yelling all day, tearing the coop apart😢 she even started running at the dog who she used to run away from. My once timid ducky has become quite brave and all I wanna do is fix this for her:(

Are your ducks fenced in? I know several of my ducks can jump a 3ft fence if the chose to. It is also possible she got taken by a predator. People have had ducks taken by predators with no sign of where they went.

I would look at your setup and see how it can be improved. Once you have fixed any potential flaws, then you could add another duck. If you don't think ducks will work out for you, you can also rehome the one girl.

So I free range my birds, and the run is under construction. I thought it was tall enough since they're never in it anyways. I know my approach must be adjusted after this. I did follow her tracks down my road until I lost them in the woods, at this point I imagine a predator probably got her, I didn't find anything when I went looking.

New ducks that you haven't raised are less likely to stay in an area. They take time to accept their new home and you can't always free range them right away.

Good luck with your modifications. I am sorry you lost her.
