Of the coops and runs.Of the flock or of the rooster?
WOW! That’s a lot of chickens! But Chicken math is a real thing thoughI have around 150 chickens but I also keep Guineas, Geese and Quail. I have a couple other flock that have 10-20 birds bird but my large flock is mostly for retired hens. Thank you for your suggestions I havent seen my flock be mean to each other but they free range as well so everyone gets their own space to chill out.
I read that if you have one rooster with that many hens it can be bad for him because they can over exert themselves trying to breed all the hens.Only if you want all the eggs to be fertile.
Otherwise, it's just a matter of personal choice (for the human) and what works for the chickens.
only one hen with all those boys?I have 5 roosters that all live together in my flock just fine plus a hen that swears she is in charge. They are a small adult flock that free range. I love roosters so I just kept adding them. Ive only had one that was so mean(lavander orpington) I had to separate and one that wasn't mean enough and everyone rejected him(silkie). Now silkie has his very own silkie coop with silkie girls and i have a bunch of different pullets in there. He's a great dad and cuddles with the babies and protects all of them. Or try lol. He's not tough. I say try. But only if you're willing to give them their own space if something goes wrong
only one hen with all those boys?
ohhh that makes much more senseI read it as 5 roosters AND a very dominant hen with no mention of how many hens total.
