i have a broody chicken that just hatched 1-chick. I also have 6 chicks that just hatched in my incubator. Anyone ever try add chicks to a mother? The chicks are all born within a day of each other.

Would i be better off taking the one chick from the mother?

It's a lot easier to let the hen raise chicks. If the 1 chick is newly hatched, slip the others beneath the mother tonight and she should accept them. If she has already left the nest with the chick, it may be more difficult to get her to accept 'new' chicks as she will already be bonded with the one chick.

My mother hen has been taking care of 5 chicks and 1 more has hatched (we put the remainder of the eggs that didn't hatch by the time momma hen left the best under a heat lamp). We put the new chick in with momma and 5 chicks and momma just pecks it, will not accept it. We still have 4 eggs to hatch. Should we remove chicks from momma? Should we raise newly hatched chicks by themselves?
