I have a 5 x 7 coop at the moment with 12 chickens (3 banties, and 9 7-9 pounders). This works out to be about 3 sf per chicken, which I feel is slightly small- though they are only confined at night. Our run is quite big, at 24 x 36 so I'm not so concerned with that size. How do you suggest I add on a little coop? Does this mess with their heirarchy or anything? Im thinking of getting a big dog house and modifying it slightly. Can I cram them in for sleeping at night in the large coop and only use the small one when it gets too cold with a possible shut-in for moving around during the day? The more info the better. I want my babies to be comfy and warm! If anyone has thoughts, suggestions, etc...Thanks!
