Adding Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) to birds drinking water.

The sisters at the local monastery are adding GSE to the drinking water for their birds to decrease pathogens in the drinking dishes.
They just started doing so and, thus, we have no verifiable data yet. Is anyone else doing this?
