Hello everyone!
I am new to chickens and have wanted them for a very long time! We have 4 hens and 1 Roo 17 weeks old. We wanted to add more to the small flock while they are still young so I acquired 3 more 5 week old silkies from a local, and ordered 2 polish and 2 silver laced 4 wk old wyadonettes from McMurrays which should be here in 2 weeks. The silkies have been with us for 3 days and we have been isolating them in a dog pen next to the others and letting them integrate with the existing ones while watching.
There was some pecking (a little blood) at first but overall I think it's going ok. I am worried to put them in the coop with the others and not sure how to take the next step to integration. I suppose I'm just a little impatient! We do have plenty of fenced space for them so they are not all cramped together
I have read ALOT on this site and a little worried about integrating the Polish chickens...I may be able to cancel or change the order, not sure. Can anyone tell me what their experiences have been with blending the different breeds and integrating 17 wk or so old with 5 wk old chicks?
Maybe I'm crazy to have such a blend, and don't want to lose any of them as I love them all! They are such a joy to watch and even keep my old Aussie dog company and he looks after them.
Thank you for the advice!
