Hey guys and gals!

so i got 2 chicks that are 38 days old.
some of the ones i got died. I'm going to the feed store soon
and wonder if i can add more chicks with the older ones or will it be a problem?
i wanted to get some the same age but can't so i was going to buy some 3 day old chicks and keep them in the smaller brooder.
will the 39 day old chicks allow more chicks that are much younger?
how would i go about adding more?

so while at the feed store i said screw it. and got 3 more chickies!!! one she said is a black sexlink? another is a white orphan? and she said the other one was a brown something i cant pronounce or spell lmao

i have 3 different brooders so i figured why not?

If they are 3 days old, they will need a heat source for a while, so put them in one of your brooders.
Give them time to grow out, then introduce them to the older ones by penning them next to the older ones.

Congrats on the new babies!

Has nothing to do with jealousy and everything to do with the newbies being "intruders" and too small and weak to defend themselves. If they're ok side by side after several days, you could maybe try letting them intermingle strictly with supervision, but as your older birds should be off heat and the younger ones still need it, and with the obvious size and behavioral differences, they're not really compatible at these ages.

yea i'm not going to put them together yet. I will have them in the same room just the babies in a brooder.

Integration can sometimes be a challenge, so be prepared for some drama - you will be adding birds (when these grow out) to the other's territory. Chickens really aren't that nice to newbies (or each other sometimes LOL)

yep. the new 3 chickies seem mean to each other but if i take them away so they don't get picked on they start peeping so they are weirdos. LOL. mt 2 older chickies always picking on each other. atm they are fighting over who gets to sit on the cool side of their roosting stick LOL
