So yesterday we went an picked up 6 new juvenile pullets. We already had a EE Roo, Silkie roo, and a salmon Favorelle Pullet. All around 11 weeks of age. We do not know the exact ages of the new pullets. All we know is that they are somewhere between 6-10 weeks old. They are noticeably smaller then the original 3. My question is, how long until the flock will start hanging out with each other. We had just gotten our new coop Friday so we put them all in at the same way to prevent any of them being territorial. Their hasn't been any fights so far. The new girls just seem to keep to themselves and my older birds want nothing to do with them. I would really love for them to all get along and want to be near each other instead of at opposite ends of the run.

You have beautiful birds! With my flock it usually takes a week for them to "hang out" all together. If you feed them at the same feeder, they have to eat together. So, they start to become buddies. Hope that helped!

Some of mine have stayed in their "groups" for months! They slowly mingle more and more, but it's like they all have "best friends".

Mine have done the same thing sometimes, but others become friends the day I put them together.

Thanks! That really phelped. I just hope they start to mingle together. I put all their food together and I sprinkle their treats in one spot. I put them in for the night and as of right now they are in separate groups sleeping. The blue Silkie seems to be the only one the older birds will hangout with. I'm just happy they are tolerating each other so far.

Copied from another query-

I have the same situation happen every year when I add 2 or 3 pullets.

Almost to the day, it takes 3 weeks before the young ones are allowed out.

I keep food and water in the coop and in the run.

Best if the roosts are in separate areas of the coop also.
I set up a temporary roost for just this reason, and keep it for 6 months.
By then the pecking order is well established.

It's a chicken thing...

Figured I would add to this thread since I have another question. It's been a week since we got the new girls and tomorrow I am going to pick up the last one, a frizzle. Is their any special way I should add her to the flock? I don't want to keep her separated of I don't have to since she's only around 7 weeks old.
