Hello!

I’m new here and pretty new to chickens. We got 5 baby chicks this past year in August and they are doing really well and we’re really enjoying them. We are considering adding a few chicks to our flock this spring and adding them in with the others once they’re old enough/big enough. I have been doing a lot of research online, but I’m curious for your opinions.

Our current flock of five hens are about 6 months old now. We have 2 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Blue Plymouth Rocks. I would really like to add a couple Silkies because I really like them. I’ve also been looking into the possibility of Polish Crested.

I’m curious for your opinions on the two breeds as well as any advice about them joining and eventually being housed together in the same coop as our five ladies. We get plenty of eggs from our five hens now for the two of us, so we’re really just interested in adding some more as pets to enjoy.

Thanks

:welcomeEven when raised with large fowl, silkies and Polish are sometimes targeted because of their size and diminished vision. Introduced to an established flock I would be surprised if they were not attacked mercilessly.
