I've got the brooder all set up and am really excited about adding babies to our flock! I am planning to pick up a 3 day old Ameraucana and a 3 WEEK old light Sussex. Is there any potential problem with raising these 2 birds together in the brooder? Will the older one pick on the baby? I just want to know if it would be better to pass on the 3 week old and stick with babies of the same age. This would mean sacrificing my fist choice breed (light Sussex) in exhange for a light brahma,

I'd love advice, thanks!

3 week olds might peck the younger ones. but if you can get one of those hand warming packets and a small box and let them sleep together. in the morning they should get along. keep an eye on everyone. better yet get a silky momma hen. I have 13 babies( 5) 2weeks old, (5) 1 1/2 weeks old and (3) 1 week olds. one of the younger ones was actually picking fights with the older chick assuming it was it's mother. She would peck the beak and get really mad the other chick was not feeding her. I separated them for the day, and tonight put them all together in the dark, and brought in a momma hen for the first time. they all crawled underneath and are sleeping in a dark box right now.
