I just got my first chicks a month ago (5 of them). I would love to add two more - an Isbar and Legbar. I know I can’t just put the two babies with the others right away, but is this overall a bad idea? Would it be better to wait until next year? (I know I’d have to take specific steps to transition.)

Is it “bad” to have all your chickens be about the same age? Then they will all get old and die around the same time :-(

With 4 weeks difference in age it might not be too hard to integrate,
but best to start them side by side separated by mesh.
I'm assuming the first chicks are a month old and the new ones are a day old?

Managing ages in your flock may depend on your goals for keeping chickens.
I keep them for food, egg sales pay for their feed.
So I hatch new chicks every years and slaughter all cockerels and older hens for the meat each year too, as I only have so much space to keep so many birds over the winters.
