adding vitamins/electrolytes

i had a friend who lost a couple buckeye hens to wry neck, and although all of mine are healthy and i feed a good feed and they get home cooked leftovers i dont want to loose any of my girls...do you add any supplements, vitamins or electrolytes to your chickens every so often? and if so, how do you go about it? shes been using the chick starter vitamin/electrolyte packages to her hens water

I add grit so that they can digest their food easily.
