I will. Im hoping it goes well. I wanted the little guy/girl to be able to be with its own kind and socialize. As much as i love having the silly little thing hang out with me it needs more than just the company of me and the kids.
I had one of those a rejected Muscovy duckling he was my baby even though I had many Muscovy outside. Of course he had to be brooded since he was just hatched. Everyday we went out and spent time with the other ducks and he went out for good at 10 weeks in his own stall with a cover over top because he would have climbed out to get to me. He was pretty good with everyone until he became sexually mature then I had to go an get him his own females. That was almost 9 yrs ago. He an his girls are still with me and he is still my boy.
Awww thats so awesome.Mine peeps and tries to follow whenever i leave too. Ive been taking him outside to the run and house everyday.(He stays inside our house with us at night). I sit with him for a little while out there and then leave. He throws a fit every time. But I come back to sit and chat all through out the day when hes in there. Hes very chatty all the time. Makes little trilling noises back at me every time i talk, tries to sit in my lap if Im in the run and does this little nibbling thing on my clothes shoes arms whatever everyday.I think he actually enjoys being petted. Most ducks don't from what I understand but he doesnt seem to mind.
That’s so precious. My drake lets me pick him up and cuddle, I can hold him in my lap. He’s just like a pet puppy. lol. I love having this relationship with him. If your hearing trilling you may have a female.
Its possible. Ive been back on forth on whether its a male or female. I had no other chicks as reference so the kids picked a boy name and a girl for the day we are sure, lol! I was supposed to have gotten all females yesterday. They are quite skittish though and as of now try to hide when i go in to see them. They do not like being handled at all. Im hoping that they will settle in soon and realize Im not the boogie man they apparently think I am and at least take a treat from my hand one day.
So I put a cage inside the run with my duck with one of the ducks yesterday. So far he has paid no attention to it at all other than when it bolts to get away when i walk in to change the water and give fresh food. It scares my duck when it does that and he runs away from it. Then he peeps and wants to get out of the enclosure to follow me. The new ducks are extremely skittish and scared. I'm starting to wonder if they will settle in here because of the big change from 160 acre farm with poultry literally everywhere to my 1 acre with coop and run. The've been here since wednesday but still act really stressed out every time they see me. I don't expect that they will ever be tame like the handraised one. But it makes me sad that they launch themselves into the run fencing everytime I come around to clean the coop and feed them. How long do you think it will take for these guys to settle in? Anyone else have experience with unhandled ducklings in the 5 to 8 week range? I tried to offer treats but they are having none of it. They turn their backs to me and won't move until I leave.
