This is probably something that has been re-hashed a thousand times already, but at the risk of being redundant (ya gotta live on the edge sometimes) here ya go...

Prop one end of the water dish up in the incubator. When you begin adding water you see that water only covers a portion of the bottom of the dish at the lowest point. As more water is added the water gets deeper at the lower end but also begins to cover more of the bottom of the dish causing a larger water surface to be presented to the air (more humidity).

This just hit me like a bolt of lightening...or it could've be the bean dip.

You could also use a cone shaped container like one of those plastic champagne glasses. i was looking at those the other day at the dollar store.

Yes, but it would be a small total water surface plus there might be a stability issue. For a small incubator it might work ok. I guess you could use whatever sized container that would fit in the incubator.

I think a square/rectangular container will work best as the container can be marked off in square inches of surface area. For instance we could take an 8" square pan and mark lines across it every 1/2" in one direction. When the water level got to the 1 1/2" mark that would mean there were 12 square inches of water surface. You could then correlate this to the reading on your hygrometer and figure out how much water to add for a specific humidity level. Might even add some food color to the water to make it easy to see which line the water is at.

Simpler way. Place a small adjustable fan over the water bowl. Adjust fan speed till you get the humidity ya want. You can also use an oil lamp full of water an turn the wick out till ya get the humidity ya want.....

But I like my humidistat an frog foggier .... It has been going strong for over a year now in my big incubator.

<chuckle> An adjustable fan is simpler than a stick?

I figure this might be able to be used in some of the styrofoam mass-produced incubators, too, Hova's, LGs.... Anyhow, it was just a thought that came to me, I'm sure there are better ways.

Take care,

rebelcowboysnb, do you have a link or phtotos of your frog fogger? I was reading that web page the other day and wanted to play around with that idea with my incubator. I should just call it the Investibator. For two reasons, it does not exist to hatch eggs, it is only for me to investigate different components set ups and what not. And secondly I am investing a ton of money in it buying all these different components lol. when I am done I think I will have enough thermostats, humidifiers, light sockets and thermometers to make about 6 incubators and am still waiting for more components to arrive. I am working on making a plug and play incubator.
