Surely, you are not serious? Bleenie is not responsible for any medical bills what so ever. If my dog runs out of my house, then I am responsible for my dog, not anyone else. My dog ran out of the house the morning and we had to chase him. If he would have gotten ran over, I certainly wouldn't hold them responsible for it. It is my responsibility to make sure that my dogs do not run out of the house. If you let your dogs out without a leash or an unfenced yard, then you are 100% responsible for whatever happens.

There is a Leash Law in Washington State that makes it totally not our fault and not responsible for the vet bills, just feel bad, more so because it was his daughters dog(she was about 12) and she was pretty upset. We were trying to help them out with getting her situated in the car but she kept biting and we couldnt find anything to muzzle her, i was worried about her accidentally biting the girl too. I am not going to pursue anything, i think he's a single dad.

I did have to fill out a report for the county, about the bite. but described the situation and that it wasn't the dogs fault.

I also directed him to our local vet which is WAY cheaper than anyone in the area. so hopefully Briskey got her fixed up and it wasn't too bad he couldnt fix it.

Still cant go along with that one. If your dog isnt trained well enough to not run out the door under any circumstances then its an accident waiting to happen.

I do agree that the owner should be very upset...with themselves for not protecting thier animal from harm.

No way am I taking the blame for hitting an animal that is in the road.

Most judges would tell the dog owners that did not watch their dogs closely being hit by a car, they would be held liable for any damages the dogs did, including your medical bills, if you want to sue them.

My parents accidently hit a collie on a dark country road, my Dad didn't have time to react. The dog owners were upset just as bad as my Mom, both of them raises Collies. We did not sue them nor did they. Neglience on their part.

In our state you are suppose to make a police report if you hit a domestic animal. I think I would call the local police now and report it, just to make sure there is documentation of what happened. I hope you heal ok and it doesn't get infected and I do think the neighbor should pay your medical bills.
The dog shouldn't of been in the road and you did nothing wrong.

I think they were all out in the yard before it happened, but the road we live on has a piece of property lined with big trees so it blocks the view of the private road the dog came off of. if the trees weren't there we would have seen her coming, but it's a completely 'blind road'.

OMG this makes me SO freaking mad! I am livid that people allow their dogs to run loose which in turn hurt you! UGH if this dog hadnt been running loose, it would still be alive, you wouldnt have medical bills and hurt feelings for hurting a dog. I just dont get the thought that dogs running loose is ok? Today while walking our Boxer my husband was chased by a Pomeranian, thankfully it was our Boxer and not our old Lab as that lil dog would be a dead lil dog (he was VERY dog aggressive) DH shooed the dog away by stomping his foot and yelling but not before it nipped at him and our Boxer! Geesh this could of ended just as badly for that cute lil dog!

to you for trying to get that dog out of the road, and for getting well soon

Sounds like the shrewd thinking of one of our newly appointed federal judges...

I just called the non emergency # and it's not required that i report the accident but the said since it bit me i had to call animal control. If it's going to cause problems for the people i don't think I am going to trll them much, i feel like a jerk having to call animal control, i know how they kind of blow things out of proportion sometimes and i don't wanna cause the people problems, i mean they already may have lost their dog.
