I bought some charcoal capsules, 1600 mg for a wild Muscovy that comes up into my lawn after my domestic ducks eat. I noticed the other day one wing was drooping badly, the next day as I expected, both wings were drooping. I have a lot of wild ducks dying out in my pond lately. I don't know exactly why, but I know something is wrong, botulism seems to be the first guess as I've asked around.
A lady I talked to at the wildlife rehab suggested providing fresh water for him and sprinkling some charcoal in it if I have some. Well I didn't have it but I thought it might be something good to have on hand so I bought it. I'm reluctant to start offering food, but I could use food ideas to put it on that it will stick to? I thought they were always powder. But I just cut one open and it's black goo! Ugh. I won't be putting it in the water.
I got the capsules because at first I was debating trying to catch him and give it to him directly to get the most in him. But maybe 1600 would be too much? Also I don't know if I'd be able to hold him down and give the pill by myself. He ain't no lightweight, he's a big guy. I might only get one chance to try that. The pills are much smaller than I expected so I could probably get more than one in if I can hold him down.
He's still walking so he might have a chance. I usually don't find them until it's too late..
