Can anyone give me tips on how to administer meds to my very large Buff Orpington hen? I have tried all her favourite foods and am not getting anywhere fast. I even resorted to syringing the AB's directly into her beak, not sure if she got much. So much head shaking and I think I got most of it!

I have tried her with grapes, banana, yoghurt, sweetcorn (that's four days out of the week I have to administer) !

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Be very careful not to aspirate her. She must have time to swallow , so it's only a little at a time. Sit down with her under you left arm holding her into you. Bring your left hand up under her wattle and gently tug down, this will force her beak open and leave your right hand free to administer with syringe. Just a little at a time . Most antibiotics taste fowl. :D , so if you are going to try to trick her it will need to be something like a sardine and rice mix.

Fancychooklady - you are a star! Thank you so much. It worked

and I never knew about the trick with gently pulling down the wattle. Having only administered meds to youngsters before, they had no wattles! Job done for today anyway. Thank you and for responding so quickly.
